_01. Tell us a bit about yourself:

Hi! I’m Gabriela and I am from Baltimore, Maryland, USA. I was transplanted in a little flower pot to the UK six years ago and haven’t looked back. I love boxing, am an avid gardener, and have a super cute mutt puppy named Alastair.

_02. In your view, what is the relationship between people and technology?

The relationship between people and technology is moving away from a ‘creator’ and ‘created’ perspective and towards a more unified body. Yet with this unified status I think humans are forgetting critical aspects of what it means to be human and connect with one another naturally due to our shared epidemic of ‘screen-dependency”.

_03. With humans and tech merging, what are you concerned or excited about?

I’m excited to see a burst of creativity in the art world and other creative industries as increased technological atomization affords us with more time to explore, invent, and create. I’m concerned though that people will not trust enough in technology to let it do what it was designed for, and then end up spending their time worrying about if it is working or not, rather than just being a human.

_04. Knowing that, how should we be responding to that change?

Don’t fight the change, embrace it, and make new lemonade!

_05. Why do you feel emotions are so important to your work?

Emotions are so important to my work, both at CrowdEmotion and more generally in life, as emotions = value.  Self-awareness, a by-product of our emotions, is vital in understanding our personal strengths and weaknesses and is the driver behind learning. Work is all about learning, creating new opportunities, and thus being able to put value to our emotions is important!

_06. What are you currently working on that helps flex your empathetic persona?

Right now I am exploring new industries and listening to their pain points to see where our team might be able to help them!

_07. Quick plug, anything you want to share with our community?

_08. Final one, what do you love about the Sensemakers community?

I love that the Empath community’s goal is to grow into a metaphorical round table where emotions, technology, values, and human connection can be discussed. We are a group of psychologists, anthropologists, AI experts, geographers, linguists, biologists, and developers who all approach emotion AI with fresh eyes. This mix not only benefits our clients, but also leads to some pretty amazing conversations in the office.
